Upper Manistee River Cleanup
With
The Kalkaska Conservation District
And The
Upper Manistee River Association

The Autumnal Equinox sunrise was spectacular this morning and we were promised
a gorgeous day for this annual event.   We were not disappointed.

Today, we teamed up with the Kalkaska Conservation District which has
taken on this annual project as their own along with other river cleanups
along other sections of the Manistee and Boardman Rivers.

Two drivers from the KCD ran our shuttle for us.  THANK YOU!!!

We were assigned the M72 to Hole in the Wall section of the river by
Bill Dean of the UMRA.  He came down to greet us as we dropped off our cars.

There were people there from the KCD, BRCS and TAPC.

We concentrated on getting cans off the bottom of the river.  It was not
easy but we managed to get about 40 cans out of the river in that section
along with the usual flip flops, wrappers and other littler.

We used the new spears that we got from a grant from Paddle Antrim.

Dee C. found a fly box packed with expensive flies which Renee will mail
back to the owner.

We got about 3 bags of trash today.  That's not a lot so we were happy that the
river is staying cleaner than before. The cans are still a problem.  We will
work on a solution to that soon.

Bill and Cory Dean of the UMRA waited for us and saved us some delicious BBQ
from Ray's in Grayling.  THANK YOU for the great lunch.  It really hit the spot.

Our thanks go out to the Shel Haven Canoe Livery for letting use his
property to launch our boats.
