Trip Reports

September 21 South Branch of the AuSable

Published on 9/21/2019

This had to be one of the best days of fall/late summer. Lois, Mike, Betty, Marlene, Tom, Becky, and John enjoyed sun, temperatures in the low 80’s, a tail wind, and perfect water levels on the South Branch. We were just paddling from Chase Bridge to Smith Bridge so we had no reason to rush. Other people had the same idea we did so we saw lots of fly fisherman who were happy to just stand in the water while trying to outwit the trout. The people in canoes and kayaks we saw were sober, and quiet. It was a day to appreciate the gift that George Mason left to the people of Michigan when he deeded the land along the banks of this river to the State of Michigan. A few of the maples had started to take on their autumn hues which reminded us of the cooler temperatures to come. After all, we are in the “ber” months.
