Fall on the lower Platte - October 20, 2019
Published on 10/21/2019
Although our group was small (Will McCord, Gerald Wilgus, and me), we had a beautiful, quiet paddle. The sky was cloudy, but we saw several great blue herons, some very close up, and several different types of ducks. We saw no other paddlers, but several fishermen/women. One of them explained that many of the coho salmon that seemed very much alive and were still vigorously making their way upstream had already started to decay, so they had to be particular about which fish they kept. After the paddle, Will graciously invited us to his cabin on Platte Lake, where he treated us to a delicious lunch and great conversation. Anyone looking for a nice fall color paddle to end the season should consider this gentle, peaceful stream.
