New Year's Day Paddle on the Lower Boardman

Linnaea Melcarek | Published on 1/11/2021

Three TAPC members (trip host Mitch Treadwell, Linda Pelkey, and Linnaea Melcarek) braved the cold to get the 2021 paddling season off to a good start. It was a casual paddle from Hull Park down to the Bay and back. We may have to make this a yearly tradition!

Linnaea's launch site onto the lake, near the east end of 16th Street (walkable from her house). She met the others at Hull Park, just a 10 minute paddle away.

Launching together from Hull Park.

There was ice around the launch at Hull Park, but not too thick. We busted through easily.

Mitch and Linda paddling through the culvert under Wadsworth Street to check out Kid's Creek. Mitch has paddled this creek hundreds of times; Linnaea only once (so far). Linda's time on the creek may be upcoming later this summer.

Paddling under west Front Street. This bridge is in bad shape and slated for a major repair/upgrade later this year (other bridges in town are also slated for work this year and next, which will make paddling this section of river a challenge at times during construction).

Icicles out on the Bay, near Murchie Bridge.

Mitch is always finding trash on this section of the Boardman!

Happy paddlers!
