Trip Reports

Bonjour, je suis Noé Anadon. Je suis un étudiant d’échange. Je viens du centre de la France. Pendant cet échange, je suis le voisin de Lois et John. Je serai au lycée de Traverse City Central en terminale. Depuis que je suis arrivé, une chose m’a marqué c’est l’hospitalité naturelle de toutes les personnes que j’ai rencontrées ! Par exemple, juste après avoir rencontré Lois et John, ils m’ont proposé de m’emmener faire du kayak avec eux !
Grâce à eux, j’ai pu passer une incroyable journée à faire du kayak sur l’Upper Platte River avec eux et Cynthia, Terry, Marlene, Michael, Jocelyn, Susan, John W. et son chien. Un groupe très sympathique de personnes souriantes et bienveillantes !
Ce n’était pas ma première fois sur un kayak, mais belle et bien ma première fois sur l’Upper Platte. Comme Lois et John m’avaient expliqué, la rivière est plus rapide et étroite au début du trajet. Et j’ai fini coincé deux fois d’affilé dans des arbres ! Après ça, je suis devenu plus à l’aise dans le kayak et la rivière était plus lente et large.
Comme le trajet commençait à se simplifier, Lois m’a appris des techniques que je ne connaissait pas encore, comme le back ferry.
Pendant ce trajet, j’ai aussi eu la chance de découvrir la beauté du site et sa faune. En effet, nous avons croisé le chemin d’un pygargue à tête blanche immature !
Pour résumer, j’ai vraiment passé un bon moment à pagayer et à rencontrer tout le monde. C’était drôle d’être le plus jeune du groupe aussi car j’ai pu aider tout le monde à porter les kayaks jusqu’au voitures après le trajet.
Après tous ces efforts, le réconfort ! Nous sommes allés manger au Platte River Inn, où la quantité de nourriture dans les assiettes était énorme ! Je crois que personne n’a réussi à finir son assiette ! C’était encore une fois un très bon moment ( et j’ai appris ce qu’étaient des « tater tots »)
Je veux remercier tout le monde pour avoir été aussi agréable, j’espère que je pourrais revenir encore !

Hello, I’m Noé Anadon. I’m an exchange student from the middle of France, I am Lois' and John’s neighbor during my exchange. I’ll be going to Traverse City Central High School as a senior. What struck me since I arrived is how welcoming people are here! For example, right after meeting Lois and John, they invited me to go kayaking with them!
Thanks to them, I had a really fun day kayaking on the Upper Platte River with them and Cyndi, Terry, Marlene, Mike, Jocelyn, Susan, John W. and his dog Piper. A wonderful crew of really nice and cheerful people.
It wasn’t my first time on a kayak, but it was my first time on the Upper Platte. As Lois and John had told me, the river is faster and narrower at first, and I ended up stuck in trees twice at the beginning! But after that, I got used to the kayak and the river became slower and wider.
As the trip became easier, Lois taught me some techniques I didn’t know yet like the back ferry.
During this trip, I also got to discover how beautiful the river is and its wildlife too. Indeed, we saw an immature bald eagle while paddling!
In a nutshell, I had a really fun time paddling and meeting everyone! It was really fun to be the youngest one, and also because I got to help everyone carry their kayaks at the end of the trip.
After all these efforts, some of us had lunch at the Platte River Inn, where the portions of food were enormous! I don’t think that anyone managed to finish their plate! I had once again a very fun time (and got to learn what “tater tots” are).
Editor's note: He was a bit confused by the French Dip sandwich on the menu, though he did know about French Fries.  The things we all assume! 
I want to thank everybody on the trip for being so cheerful, I hope I will come kayaking again!
