August 24-Little Manistee 9 Mile to DNR weir

Ron Coyne | Published on 8/24/2022
Although still a fast and tricky river to paddle due to a lot of recent debris removal the Little Manistee from 9 mile to the weir
isn't the man eater I remember going down in 2018. Wayne and Leslie even managed to run this stretch in a tandem divorce machine AKA tandem canoe. I wouldn't recommend this section to even an intermediate paddler but for someone looking for a fun run with skills to negotiate a fast and skinny river it's a blast.

River height gage downstream side of 9 mile bridge was at 11 inches which got us into a couple of gravel bars one of which I ended up getting out and taking a walk. I'd say 13 to16 inches on the gage would get you clear of the gravel bars anything over 16 inches and I think you're in for a wild ride and will get pushed into the river banks.
