We began with brunch at Shirley's In The Woods restaurant, so eight of us arrived at Penrod's in Grayling with full tummies - love that cranberry walnut bread! That group consisted of Marv (the ultimate limo driver!) & Marlene, Susan & Gerald (on his first TAPC adventure this year, due to medical stuff), Paul & Irene (my reliable sweep and photographer), and John (in the Tsunami!) & Lois (who is perpetually in teacher mode).
At the launch area, we were joined by Bob M (the only solo canoe today), Jacqui (in a stunning little wooden kayak), and new-to-me Trish & Howie. We meandered downstream towards Stephan Bridge, on the river for a bit less than 4 hours. A few lessons were learned: paddling technique, ferries and eddy turns, reasons why you don't let anyone else touch your stuff when you're loading the car, why you want bow and stern lines, paying attention when entering your kayak (and consequently, why you take extra clothes in a dry bag), appreciating jack-o-lanterns on log jams, etc.
And the fall colors were amazing!!! Photos by Irene, Jacqui, and John
Do you see a face, or a fried egg over easy, or both?
