Trip Reports

Manistee by sections

Tracie M Lord | Published on 5/30/2023
This was the first section of Ron’s “Manistee Marathon” by sections. We all met at Sharon Rd put in, there were a few “old” members that came out of the woodwork for the paddle & this author was sure glad to see some of her “old” paddling buddies. There was a plethora of Tsunamis, a couple of Perceptions & Eddylines, plus a Wee Lassy to round out the flotilla. Nothing of import happened at the launch or beginning section of the trip. Concern was had over the lunch stop as this author’s memory was a bit hazy & the initial possibility didn’t seem quite right, therefore the group continued on in search of a good spot. Nothing was suitable….too sunny, too swampy, too small, too shady with too many bugs! Finally happened upon the correct spot & we were delighted to find several great improvements had been made to the landing such as a beautiful new set of stairs! Perfect for sitting & al fresco dining, the group consumed their individual lunches brought from home.
Two things of note:
1. We spied a large bird of prey eyeing up some nearby ducklings & a rousing debate ensued as to the type…immature eagle or osprey?
2. A River front owner turned on a pipe that discharged water out over the river in a lovely arcing shower. Several in the group took advantage of the free cooling shower!
