Trip Reports

June 4 Upper Platte River

Published on 6/5/2009
Who came?

Lois & John, Sara Cockrell, Fred & Judy Swartz, Bob Fitch

Where did you go?

Upper Platte River from US-31 to Deadstream Road

How was it?

Gorgeous!  Warm enough for shorts and river sandals.

What kind of boats were there?

Three solo canoes (Sara and L&J), 3 kayaks (J&F and Bob)

Anything noteworthy?

We had gorgeous weather for the paddle, and reveled in the remote feeling of the river at the beginning and end of the trip.  It took us only 2.5 hours, and for most of the trip, we had to be constantly alert for the twists and turns in the river, around downed trees.  The water is rather shallow, and surprisingly warm.  We spotted a large snapping turtle and also a duck with ten brand new ducklings!
