Trip Reports

June 16 Upper Pine River

Published on 6/16/2009

Who came?

Lois & John, Bob Fitch, Judy & Fred Swartz

Where did you go?

Upper Pine River from Briarpatch to Lincoln Bridge

How was it?

Nobody else around, lots of wildlife sightings

What kind of boats were there?

Three solo canoes (L & J & B), two kayaks (J & F)

Anything noteworthy?

This is easily one of the prettiest streams in the area, and it doesn't require a permit, like the sections of the Pine that are further downstream.  We all needed to pay careful attention to our river-reading skills, since there were numerous rocks to avoid and a few downed trees to slide underneath.  It was really quiet with only 5 of us.  We all spotted several deer, plus a bald eagle perched on a dead birch tree.  We'll be back!
