Every winter, Jay Hanks with the Lansing Oar and Paddle Club (LOAPC) leads a camping trip on the Au Sable, 2021 being the 40th year. Trip goes from Grayling to Parmalee Landing, camping Saturday night at White Pine Campground (some 30mi total). People who only want to paddle one day can take out at Wakeley Bridge, after 14mi, with a lunch break at Burtons Landing.
Meet at MSP Forensic Lab by the M72 bridge at 10am Saturday for shuttle to Wakeley (day trippers) or Parmalee (overnight campers). Masks must be worn for shuttle.
The water is cold and rescue options are limited, so this trip is only for paddlers with cold weather paddling experience. Appropriate clothing and PFD must be worn.
There is no car access to the campground so all food, camping gear, and firewood must be carried in via boat.
